Most people set up Google Search Console on their site and call it a day. That is a mistake. Bing has its own free webmaster tool and it takes about ten minutes to set up. If you are not using it, you are missing real data about how your site performs in Bing search.
Why Bother With Bing Webmaster Tools
Bing Webmaster Tools tells you which keywords are bringing people to your site from Bing, how many impressions and clicks those keywords get, which of your pages are indexed, and whether Bing has found any problems with your site.
Google Search Console does all of this too — but only for Google. If your site gets traffic from Bing, you will not see that in Google Search Console at all. Bing Webmaster Tools fills that gap.
It is also one of the easiest ways to speed up how fast Bing indexes your new pages. You can submit URLs directly, just like with Google.
Step 1: Create a Microsoft Account
Go to webmaster.bing.com. You need a Microsoft account to log in. If you have an Outlook or Hotmail address, that works. If not, create a free Microsoft account — it only takes a couple of minutes.
Step 2: Add Your Site
Click the button that says Add a Site. Type in your full website URL including the https part. Click Add.
Step 3: Verify Ownership
Bing needs to confirm that you actually own the site. There are three ways to do this.
Option 1: XML file. Download a small XML file and upload it to the root of your website. Then click verify.
Option 2: Meta tag. Bing gives you a meta tag to paste into the head section of your site. In WordPress, you can add this through SEOPress. Go to SEOPress settings, find the Webmaster Tools section, and paste the Bing verification code there.
Option 3: Import from Google Search Console. This is the fastest option if you already have Google Search Console set up. One click and you are done.
The Google import option is what I recommend if you have GSC already working.
Step 4: Submit Your Sitemap
Once your site is verified, submit your sitemap. SEOPress automatically creates a sitemap at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. In Bing Webmaster Tools, go to Sitemaps in the left menu, click Submit Sitemap, and enter that URL. Bing will start crawling your pages within a day or two.
Step 5: Submit Individual Pages Fast
When you publish a new post, go to URL Submission in the Bing Webmaster Tools menu and paste in the direct URL. Bing will usually crawl it within a few hours.
What to Look at Once It Is Set Up
Give it a week or two to collect data. Then check these sections regularly.
Search Performance shows your clicks, impressions, click-through rate, and average position for each keyword. You will see which Bing searches are sending you traffic. This is often eye-opening if you assumed Bing was sending you nothing.
Site Explorer shows which pages Bing has indexed. SEO Reports flags issues like missing title tags, slow pages, and broken links. Backlinks shows sites linking to you — sometimes different from what Google shows.
IndexNow — The Feature Most People Miss
Bing Webmaster Tools has a feature called IndexNow. This lets you tell Bing instantly when you publish or update content, instead of waiting for Bing to crawl on its own schedule.
SEOPress supports IndexNow. Turn it on in SEOPress settings under Advanced. Every time you publish or update a post, SEOPress automatically notifies Bing. Your new content shows up in Bing search much faster.
This is a small but real advantage. Most people running WordPress sites never think about Bing indexing speed. Now you do.
It Takes Ten Minutes. Do It Today.
Bing Webmaster Tools is free. It gives you real data. It helps Bing find your content faster. If you are already set up on Google Search Console, use the import option and you will be verified in under two minutes. Submit your sitemap. Turn on IndexNow via SEOPress. Done.
